About the Compliance Hotline

Because compliance is everyone's responsibility, you should report any concern

As a public institution, the university must be a responsible steward of financial resources and the public trust. The Hotline provides a system to report instances of noncompliance, fraud, inappropriate conduct, or other serious concerns. Reporters can remain confidential or anonymous if they choose to.

The Compliance Hotline is open to reporting by U-M employees, students, vendors, and others. Every report is examined and evaluated. The Hotline can be used on all campuses: Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Flint, and Michigan Medicine. However, the Hotline is not the only method to report. You can also report to:

If you find yourself in an ethical dilemma or suspect inappropriate or illegal conduct, or are not comfortable reporting your concern to management, we encourage you to use the Hotline to report your concern. You may provide contact information or you may remain anonymous.

An external company manages the intake of reports through phone calls and their online form. The vendor (EthicsPoint) documents the information reported, and routes that information to compliance and audit personnel in the university for assessment. Hotline reports related to HIPAA compliance are managed by Michigan Medicine Corporate Compliance. Hotline reports on financial misuse or frauds at any of the three academic campuses and Michigan Medicine are managed by Audit Services (except Revenue Cycle billing).

For more information, see Investigations.

Whenever you file a report, the vendor does not generate or maintain any internal connection logs with IP addresses, so no information linking your PC or phone to your report is available.
