Investigations

Compliance is everyone’s responsibility. When a concern is communicated, it is evaluated sent to the appropriate office for review.

Who performs Investigations?

Depending on the topic, entity, and location of the alleged behavior, an investigation may be carried out by Audit Services (financial fraud) or by the school, college, or department. If the allegation names a senior leader or staff member who would typically receive the report, then the report will be escalated to a higher-level contact for an independent review.

Audit Services takes all allegations seriously and works to ensure reports are sent to the appropriate office for review.

What is the Investigative Process?

After a report is assigned to a specific office, that office will evaluate the allegations and follow its own policies and procedures to determine next steps. However, there are basic investigative steps that will be carried out. The steps may include:

  • Interviewing involved people and/or witnesses
  • Gathering and reviewing relevant data
  • Reviewing policies
  • Determining next steps to resolve the issue reported and to prevent similar incidents from occurring

Participation in the Investigative Process

As a reporter, you do not have to participate in the investigative process. However, that may hinder the ability of the assigned investigator to determine the facts.

If you gave your name and contact information, you may be contacted to provide additional details.

If you are an anonymous reporter, you can still participate anonymously by using your report key and password to communicate through the hotline system. Remember to login and check if a question or message was sent to you.
