Advisory services are consultative projects requested by management or university leadership. They differ from audits in that they are typically forward-looking and solution-oriented, focusing on helping units design or improve processes rather than assessing past performance.
Common examples include:
- Providing input on new or revised business processes, systems, or policies
- Assessing internal controls in advance of system implementations or reorganizations
- Facilitating risk assessments or control self-assessments
- Advising committees or task forces on controls, accountability, and process efficiency
- Offering guidance on governance, compliance, or risk management practices
